Hugh has always liked and understood how money works. He is a graduate of Lamar University with a degree in accounting. In 1971, he managed the accounting for 101 Texas State Optical offices while employed by Roger Brothers in Beaumont, Texas. While employed by investor, Thomas S. Reed, he maintained and managed the books for ranches, rental properties, and syndicated racehorses. In 1974, Hugh accepted the position of comptroller at Har-Con, a mechanical construction company that was awarded a $9 million contract for the expansion of John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. The bicentennial year brought him into the insurance business with the Seinsimer Agency, but he still had not found his niche.
Feeling the need to get out of the back office and into the world of small business, Hugh founded Texas Rocker Company in 1975, and spent the next 30+ years building custom handcrafted furniture, joining other artists and artisans at prestigious art events such as the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair, Coconut Grove Art Fair, New York Gift shows, and all the way out west to California Harvest Festivals. Back at home, he was a regular at the Texas State Arts & Crafts Festival in Kerrville and the Texas Folklife Festival in San Antonio for over 20 years. After the art show years, Hugh made the transition into the retail furniture business, opening Canyon Trails stores in San Antonio and Marble Falls.
In 2008, Hugh joined his son, Carson, to round out the Vaughn Team at Advantange Mortgage Network. He brings to the team over 30 years of experience as a money manager and small business owner. With the understanding his long experience provides, he can accurately structure a home loan to fit every client.
